The Children Really ARE Our Future

So, yes: I read Teen Vogue. Not R.L. Stein novels. Judge me not. And one of the reasons why that is was best displayed on this month's cover issue, which features that of Chanel Iman and Jourdan Dunn. In between poses and posturing, the supermodels talk quite openly and candidly about race in the fashion industry, and how it has caused a rift between the two model's friendship. Angling to be "the Black girl", they were often at one another's throats. Fear not. They got nationalist on us, and realized they were stronger working together as an alliance. Solid. Funny thing is, though, big sis, VOGUE, would never touch such a topic with a fifteen-foot pole: unless, that pole was attached to a high-wattage star of color and an even bigger PR frenzy. I believe that in a lot of ways Teen Vogue's audience can handle it, while an older cadre of VOGUE readers simply pay no mind to being progressive. Hmmm...
